Filler Product Portfolio

Filler pigments have an increasingly important role in the success of uncoated
woodfree, newsprint and supercalendered papers, as expectations in terms of
print performance are constantly rising.

ACME™

Product Description

ACME™ is tailored for filling applications requiring low abrasion and residue. It provides above average brightness and low b value for this type of application. These qualities result from Imerys' patented water washed manufacturing technique applied to selected crudes.

Application

ACME™ can be added to either the thick or thin stock stream with dilution water for optimum dispersion. Your Imerys representative can provide you with specific recommendations on your machine conditions.

Shipping

ACME™ is available in slurry, dry bulk and bag forms.

Alphatex™

Product Description

Alphatex™ is a high brightness, calcined clay used for coating and filling applications in paper and board where high brightness and opacity are required. It is made via a precisely controlled thermal process using a select kaolin feed. The resulting product has a controlled pore structure that maximizes light scattering.

Application

Alphatex™ is cost effective in reducing the need for titanium dioxide. In filling applications, it improves print appearance and strike through as well as brightness and opacity. As a coating pigment, Alphatex™ improves coverage, absorbency, and print properties. In short, Alphatex™ is a valuable component in the production of newsprint, coated papers, white top and mottled liner board and uncoated fine papers..

Alphatex™ HP

Product Description

Alphatex™ HP is a high brightness, calcined clay designed to possess greater pore volume and coarser particle size distribution. A precisely controlled thermal process is used to process select kaolin feed. The result is a product with higher surface area than standard calcine clay.

Application

Alphatex™ HP was designed for filling applications, especially newsprint, where coefficient of friction is difficult to achieve. Like Alphatex™, Alphatex™ HP is excellent in increasing brightness, opacity and ink strike through. The high surface area creates a product with high oil absorption, key to applications where improved ink receptivity is required.

The pore structure of Opacitex™ has been optimized to yield maximum light scatter and to control ink vehicle penetration. The result is improved opacity and sheet gloss, as well as reduced ink strike through and print show through in lightweight groundwood grades. It also has higher light absorption for higher opacity and slightly larger particle size which contributes to its enhanced retention compared to conventional calcined kaolin.

Application

Groundwood grades such as newsprint, lightweight directory and groundwood specialties, can be improved by using 2-6% of Opacitex™ as filler.
