BARRISURF™

Product Description

The increased focus on recycling and sustainable packaging is driving the trend for water-based barrier coatings to replace fluorocarbon and extruded polymer barrier coatings. Platey kaolins incorporated with appropriate polymers can provide effective barrier performance against water, gases and grease. The use of these platey kaolins improve the barrier performance above and beyond typical latex coatings. These eco-friendly coatings can be applied using existing paper and board coating equipment including size press, blade and curtain coaters.

Imerys has developed two new barrier kaolins as part of the BARRISURF™ product line, listed below. These hyper-platey, nano-dimensional thickness crystals create a tortuous coating structure that inherently resists penetration. With the rising cost of polymers, incorporating Imerys BARRISURF™ kaolins in a formulation will reduce cost while enhancing barrier performance.
