Proposed Closure of Ground Calcium Carbonate
Facility in Salisbury, UK
Cornwall, UK, October 13, 2008. IMERYS Pigments for Paper is today announcing the proposed closure of its ground calcium carbonate (GCC) facility in Salisbury, UK. The facility is expected to stop production early in 2009.
The significant reduction in paper production capacity within the UK, combined with a slow down in the economy, has led to a decline in overall demand. This, combined with recent significant increases in costs, has given IMERYS Pigments for Paper no choice but to take this course of action.
A consultation process with affected employees will begin immediately.
In addition, IMERYS Pigments for Paper will begin discussions with any customers currently supplied from this facility, with a view to assisting in the transition to alternative products or sources of supply.
