Mid Cornwall clay area awarded Eco-town status
We are delighted to announce that the Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG) has today confirmed that Imerys’ Clay Country Eco-town, an initiative to regenerate the Mid Cornwall clay area, has been awarded Eco-town status. This is the culmination of a 2 year project which has involved us competing against 60 other nationwide schemes for the accolade.
The Eco-town accreditation is important to Imerys for a number of reasons: it puts the national regeneration spotlight firmly on the Mid Cornwall area, it provides a framework to underpin delivery of the proposals, it facilitates partnership through co-operation between the private and public sectors and the community and finally it encourages innovation and creativity in delivering a showcase for low carbon sustainable living.
With the backing of the Government in place, work can now get under way, with our partners and very importantly the local community, on developing the details of this visionary scheme which will see the transformation of six of our former industrial sites in the Mid Cornwall area.
