IMERYS Pigments for Paper & Packaging has enhanced its logistics infrastructure
for the European market through the establishment of a new distribution centre in
Antwerp. The new facility became operational from the fourth quarter 2007.
IMERYS’ worldwide infrastructure and logistics for a broad line of kaolins, PCC, and GCC is unmatched in the industry. Already in a leadership position in 1996, IMERYS invested in kaolin and carbonate operations, removing significant cost from our business, and refocusing on customers. The result has been a step change in service and lower delivered cost.
New ‘EUROHUB’ Distribution Centre
IMERYS Pigments for Paper & Packaging has enhanced its logistics infrastructure for the European market with the establishment of a new distribution centre in Antwerp.
The establishment of the new Eurohub mineral distribution centre in Antwerp, provides storage for slurry, and dry products, together with make-down capacity. Its main facilities include two dedicated warehouses, a tank farm, a slurry make-down unit together with loading facilities for slurry and dry bulk clay. Onward deliveries to the customer are by road, rail, sea and barge.
This enhanced logistics infrastructure is complemented by expanded shipping capacity from Brazil to Europe.
Creative Approaches to Delivery
In addition, creative approaches to delivery have produced multi-million benefits for a variety of customers.
A shift from land transport to ships from the Georgia coast to the Pacific Northwest has dramatically reduced costs. A novel arrangement with several paper producers to in Europe to coordinate mineral and paper shipments on the same transport vehicles has rationalized costs for all parties.
Other developments include major investment in our rail fleet and improved plant scheduling via a cross-functional team of manufacturing logistics, customer service and sales representatives.
