Chips From Imerys Malaysia
Imerys' Malaysia operations supply marble
chips throughout the Asia Pacific region from
Japan to Tasmania, and as far as Europe to both
Imerys owned operations and to customers
alike. In 2004 additional mining and crushing
capacity was added to meet the demand for
this high quality marble for both Asian plants,
customers and some of our European
operations. Imerys Malaysia is a solid base
from which to grow our businesses globally.
Our customers can be assured of a secure,
high quality source of marble for the
production of both WGCC and dry GCC
powders from this operation.

Adds Bullen, "Our small flexible size and
unique kaolin products mean niche markets
are a good fit for us. We work closely with
Imerys Teams to develop these markets,
providing product and application information,
responding quickly to changing market needs,
assisting with training of Imerys personnel
and agents, and participating in agent
seminars and trade shows."

GCC & PCC At Kerinci
A jointly owned wet-ground GCC plant at
April's Kerinci Sumatra mill has been operational
since 1999.
In October 2006 Imerys commissioned a
120KMT PCC plant on the April site, allowing
the mill to formulate multi-pigments. Says
Boss, "Kerinci has one of the world's largest pulp
mills, with a massive output from two machines
including the newest 450,000 tpy machine
that started up last year. This is big news for
Imerys."
Also in Indonesia is the P.T. Esa Kertas mill,
where platy kaolins are employed for their
coated grades.
Role For Kaolins Down Under
Faced with strong competition from China
and Indonesia, and aided by a strengthening
Australian Dollar, Australian paper producers
have experienced difficult times. Based on
these conditions, minerals can play an even
more important role in reducing raw material
costs, and adding value. As a well-established
and trusted local producer of papermaking and
performance minerals in Australia, Imerys is
committed to bringing its full range of capabilities
to this market. Australian Paper in Tasmania has
on-site GCC, and employs kaolins from Pittong,
providing them with local multi-pigment options.
According to Colin Bullen, General Manager
Imerys Minerals Australia, "Our approach is to
tailor-make products to suit customers specific
requirements. This includes developing the most
efficient supply chain. The end result is providing
products and services that add value to customers'
operations and products."
Bullen says that regular review meetings with
senior management teams at major customers
encompass the total business relationship
including joint product development, product
application optimisation and issues, such as
product quality, and supply chain improvement
projects.
